Sheila M. Pickwell, Ph.D., CFNPSheila Murphy Pickwell is a Clinical Professor in the School of Medicine. Her experience includes 23 years educating nurse practitioners and medical students more than 35 years working with migrant populations in California. These populations include farm workers, undocumented aliens and refugees from Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa. She has published articles in professional journals on cultural health beliefs and practices and the physical and mental health problems that beset migrating people. She lectures extensively to nurses and to physicians on divergent cultural beliefs and the social and health assessment of patients and families. Currently, she is also involved with the PACE Program in the Division of Family Medicine. Dr Pickwell received her BSN at San Jose State University, her Masters degree and certification as a family nurse practitioner (FNP) at the University of California, Los Angeles, and her PhD in the Department of Sociology, University of California, San Diego |
