Mr. Henri Migala has a Master degree in medical anthropology from the University of Texas at Arlington, and an MPH from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
Mr. Migala is currently the Director of International Health Programs at International Relief Teams (IRT) in San Diego, where he is responsible for developing and overseeing a variety of health and development programs, from maternal and newborn care to preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS, throughout the world.
Previously, Mr. Migala worked for the World Health Organization in Nepal for the global polio eradication campaign. Mr. Migala also served as the Director for International Health Related Programs at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, where he also served as the Director for the Division of Research and Education within the College of Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine.
In 1996, Mr. Migala was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for International Health by the International Health Section of the American Public Health Association.
In 1995, Mr. Migala was selected by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRCC) as 1 of only 40 social and behavioral scientists from around the world to attend a working conference on health care in rural and remote areas. As a result of this meeting, Mr. Migala became involved with a team of social and behavioral scientists to address the escalating suicide rate of Inuit on Baffin Island, Canada (at the time, the highest rate of suicide in the world).
Mr. Migala also served as the Program Director for the First Global Conference on the Social Obligations of Universities and the Health of the Disadvantaged, co-sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Mr. Migala joined the Division of International Health and Cross Cultural Studies at UCSD in Spring 2004.
